Through our thousands of human service programs, including housing and healthcare, Volunteers of America helps more than 2 million people in over 400 communities in 46 states as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Since 1896, we have supported and empowered America’s most vulnerable groups, including at-risk youth, the frail elderly, men and women returning from prison, homeless individuals and families, people with disabilities, and those recovering from addictions. Carnegie Hall’s Musical Connections at Valley Lodge
Musical Connections is a free program of the Weill Music Institute that brings musical performances to hospitals, homeless shelters, correctional facilities, and senior-services organizations. From November 2009 through April 2010, a Musical Connections songwriting workshop took place at Valley Lodge transitional housing shelter, part of the West Side Federation for Senior Housing in New York City. This documentary shares the stories and songwriting process of three workshop participants, leading up to a culminating concert for other shelter residents, family, and friends.
